Have you ever wondered how astronauts sleep?
Do they sleep or do they just float around their spaceship all day?
Astronauts sleep in sleeping bags and because they are weightless, they can sleep in any position. They do attach themselves so that they don’t float around the cabin and bump into things while sleeping. As a result, they don’t actually need pillows to sleep with.
Most astronauts are in space for around 6 months and this can be an isolating time for them. Scientists are currently working on a design for a pillow for astronauts that will offer them psychological benefits like featuring smells from home or built-in speakers. The pillows will not be for comfort but rather to meet the basic needs of the astronauts while they are on their space explorations and without regular human interactions.
NASA has been involved in developing sleep pillows and mattresses, we take a look at two of these pillows and a mattress to see how they can help achieve an out of this world sleeping experience.
Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow
This neck pillow has been made from pressure-relieving material that has been formulated by the clever people at NASA. The Tempur material allows the muscles in your neck and shoulder to relax completely. When your muscles relax, your body relaxes and you can relax and fall asleep quickly. The best part is, if you are sleeping on a good pillow that relaxes your neck you will sleep for longer and enjoy magical dreams. You don’t have to worry about the pillow changing shape, it will return to its former shape after each use.
Say goodbye to neck pain and hello to a cosmic sleeping experience on this state of the art pillow. The pillow has a premium quilted cotton cover that can be removed and washed.
Tempur All Purpose Pillow
Not only did NASA create a sleeping pillow for your comfort but they also have a handy little all-purpose pillow that you can use in a variety of different ways. This little pillow is shaped like a peanut and can be used as a neck roll, leg spacer or lumbar cushion. The pressure-relieving material used in this pillow has been formulated by NASA and when used it will personalize your support and alignment. Regardless of how you use this pillow, it will always return to its’ original shape. This is a great travel pillow to take along with you if you are flying somewhere or if you will be sitting on a train for extended periods.
This innovative pillow comes with a carrying strap to make it easy for you to take along on your various travels. It is also a small pillow that will fit easily into your travel bag. You are able to remove the cover and wash it after your explorations.
Tempur Memory Foam Mattress
The support and comfort you will get when you sleep on this pillow is legendary! Scientists from NASA have developed the Tempur material used in this mattress and it will offer you twice the pressure relief of other, normal mattresses. This is an 11-inch mattress that will help you sleep more deeply so you wake up ready to explore and discover new lands.
These two pillows and mattress will allow you to sleep comfortably thanks to NASA. We are going to take a look at a few fun pillows that you can use to decorate your home or bedroom if you are space fans.
